Powerful Sleep Aids From Mother Nature

by Alex Jimmens

It seems as though everywhere you look there is another story about how Americans, and indeed people around the world, are not getting enough sleep these days. Not getting enough sleep is a big deal, and it’s not something that should be treated lightly. Insufficient sleep can cause car accidents; poor job performance, interfere with wound healing, cause relationship problems and even contribute to premature aging!
Many of us find that we are having trouble falling asleep due to all the stress of modern life. Stress can produce hormones that can actually interfere with our sleep. Once these annoying hormones kick in and interfere with our sleep, we soon find that we are now under even more stress. This horrible loop can continue on indefinitely if we do not take steps to get more sleep and relaxation. Your goal should just be more sleep; it should be more restful sleep as well!

Mother Nature has definitely provided us with sleep aids that are safe, effective, nutritious and even down right tasty. If you are having trouble falling asleep, there are foods that you can find in almost any grocery store that should help you combat insomnia. These snacks will assure that you not only get more sleep. but more restful sleep as well.

Here are five foods that are good for you and can contribute towards a more restful night at the same time.

Five Natural Paths Toward Better Sleep:

1. Go nuts for walnuts. Walnuts are very nutritious, high in fiber, high in protein and rich in heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which contribute to heart and brain health. They, of course, also have compounds that will help you sleep.

3. There is a fruit that is delicious that can help you fall asleep faster. Cherries have a slew of nutritional and health benefits, such as being rich in antioxidants, for example. If you are finding that you are having trouble falling asleep, incorporate cherries in your diet. They contain chemicals that should help you get some shuteye.

4. Tea has long been used to help people fall asleep. Chamomile tea is a wonderful example of a very safe tea that can be used by virtually everyone that will also aid in sleep.

4. Valerian root tea can pack quite the punch. Those who have never tried a properly brewed cut of valerian root will be surprised by just how powerful this tea can be.

Fortunately, there are other natural ways for you to help your body beat back the effects of insomnia. The good news about the five natural insomnia fighters listed above is that they are all easy to find in almost any grocery store. After all, if your grocery store doesn’t sell walnuts, cherries, chamomile tea and pumpkin seeds, you probably need to be shopping at a better grocery store.

Additionally, these five foods are good for you as well. Walnuts, cherries and pumpkins seeds are all foods that are loaded in nutrition and disease fighting chemicals. In one bold move you can improve your diet and get more hours of sleep at the same time!

Didn’t know about the cherries! I eat nuts regularly and I can’t say that they have helped (at least not in my case).

Thanks a lot for the great article. My boyfriend is terrible snoring at night and we couldn’t find a way out. Lately he had to move to the other room as I couldn’t fall asleep. I hope mouthpieces will be helpful!
